Chennai, Sept 26:
The inaugural of the Innovator Identification Camp held by Technology Business Incubator of Vellore Institute of
Technology (VIT-TBI) was inaugurated
today in City.
Gopal Srinivasan, Director of TVS
Electronics formally inaugurated the
function in the presence of the Chief
Guest H.K. Mittal, Head of NSTEDB
Division, Department of Science & Technology, New Delhi.
Mittal in his key note address stated
the nurturing innovations in the field of
science and technology and its importance in entrepreneurship. He praised
VIT's role in nourishing tomorrows business men. Gopal Srinivasan in his inspiring inaugural speech pointed out
the importance of software and other
technical fields. But he asked the pupil not to forget the small businesses
in our country. He said `there are about
3 million small businesses running successfully in our country.
About 50% of our income come from them and 42% of export too.'
About the incubators he said 'this
word came from a Greek word which
means a chamber to sleep to bring visionary dreams. We all were in incubators for 9 months, this is a very essential part of life. Like that
entrepreneurship too needs to be put
in an incubator which develops dreams
and make it come true.'
VIT-TBI has been selected by InfoDev an agency founded and supported
by World Bank to execute a project under its Incubator Development Initiative.
Two Innovator Identification camps
would be held in Chennai and
Coimbatore to reach out to potential
innovators. Around 300 prospects in
total are expected to attend these
events.
The Industry partners would project
the emerging opportunities, technology
requirements, gaps in the supply chain.
The incubator partners would present
their service offerings and the Co partners like banks would present the
schemes available.
The accelerated incubation program would facilitate intensive business coaching,
training and mentoring. Fund support will also be integrated with this project to
enable the entrepreneurs to start the activities immediately.
Earlier, the welcome address was given by P. Radhakrishna, Vice-Chancellor of VIT and A. Balachandran,
Manager, VIT-TBI briefed about the
camp. G.V Sampath, Pro-Chancellor
of VIT presided over the function in the
absence of G. Viswanath, Chancellor
of VIT. Mahesh Kumar, Asst. Manager,
VIT-TBI thanked the guest of honor
and the audience.
